Domino Chain Studio
Draw a line on the floor and it fills with standing dominoes. Push the first and watch them fall - every tile is simulated, never animated.

About Domino Chain Studio
Domino Chain Studio is a toppling toy, not the numbered-tile board game. Drag across the floor and the path is filled with tiles at an even spacing, each turned to follow the curve. You see the count, spacing, tightest turn and any overlap before a single tile is placed.
Press Push and the start tile is tipped over. Each tile is a 4 × 8 × 2 cm block falling under gravity, simulated 120 times a second, so a gap that is too wide, a turn that is too tight or a tile knocked sideways stops the chain exactly as it would on a real floor.
Four starter layouts show what works: a straight line, a hairpin, a split into two arms and a spiral. Ten challenges hand you a fixed start and bells to ring, and leave the missing stretch to you. Every challenge was completed by a real run of the same physics before it shipped.
How to play
- Press ▶ Push to topple the starter line, then Reset to stand every tile back up.
- Choose Draw path and drag on the floor. Check the preview, then press Place tiles. A path that starts on a tile carries on from it.
- Use Quick build for an exact straight, curve or split from the selected tile. Add a bell pad and make sure a tile falls onto it.
- In a challenge, fill the gap between the fixed tiles and the bells, then push. If it stops, Select where it stopped shows the tile.
Controls
- Mouse: in Draw path, drag to draw; in Erase, drag across tiles. In Select or Push start (or with Camera on), drag the floor to turn the view; scroll to zoom. The round buttons turn, zoom and reset the view.
- Touch: one finger draws, selects or erases; two fingers turn and pinch-zoom. Camera makes every drag turn the view.
- Keyboard, with the floor focused: Space pushes and resets, D, S, P and E switch mode, C toggles Camera, Enter places a preview and Escape discards it, arrow keys move the selected tile or object 1 cm, [ and ] turn it 5 degrees, Delete erases it, Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y undo and redo, Home resets the view.
The rules
- Tiles are spaced 4.0 to 5.8 cm apart. Closer than 4 cm they prop each other up; wider than 5.8 cm they miss.
- Tiles may not overlap each other or objects, and must stay on the 6 × 6 m floor. A turn tighter than 10 cm is allowed but warned about, because it usually knocks tiles sideways.
- A tile counts as fallen when it has leaned past 60 degrees for 0.2 seconds. A bell rings when a falling tile or the ramp ball lands on its pad.
- The run is complete when at least 95% of the tiles have fallen (some challenges ask for all of them) and every required bell has rung. It ends after 3 seconds with nothing moving, or after 2 minutes.
- A design holds up to 800 tiles on a desktop computer and 300 on a phone or tablet. A path that would go over the limit is previewed but not placed.
Scoring, saving and limits
Challenges only: score = 1000 × the share of tiles that fell − 1 for each second the chain was moving − 10 for each tile beyond the reference solution. A challenge also refuses a run that uses too many extra tiles. Best scores are kept on this device and reset when the content version changes. Free building has no score.
Your design is saved in this browser after every change. Download a backup to keep it or move it; importing is checked first and can be undone. Copy run link puts every tile, the start and the push direction in the link; playback can differ slightly between devices.
The 3D floor needs WebGL 2 and WebAssembly. Physics is a model: friction is a single value and the tiles are perfect blocks, so a real set will differ. A slow device runs the chain slower rather than skipping steps.
Accessibility
Every tile can be placed with Quick build, selected from the list, moved and turned with buttons, and erased without a pointer; the keyboard works on the focused floor. The run is visual; the readouts and the status line report time, fallen tiles, bells and where the chain stopped in words. Low motion turns off the celebration.
Questions
- Why did my chain stop?
- Usually a gap too wide or a turn too tight. Press Select where it stopped, Reset, then close the gap with a lower spacing or redraw the curve wider.
- Why are some of my tiles red in the preview?
- They overlap another tile or an object. Redraw the path a little further away; overlapping tiles are never placed.
- Is every challenge solvable?
- Yes. Each one shipped with a reference solution that completed under the same physics and rules you play with.
- Can I make it go the other way?
- Yes. Select the start tile and press Reverse push, or make a different tile the start in Push start mode.
