About Spot the Difference Worlds
Spot the Difference Worlds has twelve pairs of pictures drawn from six original rooms: a little cafe, a garden house, a night observatory, a creative studio, a toy shop and a workshop. In each pair, picture B is picture A with exactly seven changes: an object changes colour, or one object has been swapped for another in the same place. Nothing else differs, down to the pixel - that is checked automatically for every pair.
Both pictures share one view. Zoom in on one and the other follows, so you can compare shelf by shelf. On a phone the pictures are shown one at a time at full width, with a button to flip between them that keeps exactly the same view.
How to play
- Choose Relaxed (no timer, no penalties) or Timed, and a scene - or play today's pair.
- Tap or click anything that is different, in either picture. A found change is ringed in gold in both.
- Zoom with the buttons, the mouse wheel or two fingers, and drag to move around. Dragging never counts as a tap.
- Stuck? Hint first highlights the quarter of the picture holding a change; a second hint circles the object.
- Find all seven to finish. The result shows your time, wrong taps and hints.
Controls
- Tap or click to choose; drag to pan; mouse wheel, pinch or the Zoom buttons to zoom; Fit shows the whole picture.
- On a phone, Show A and Show B flip between the pictures without moving the view.
- Keyboard: focus the pictures, then the arrow keys step from object to object, Enter checks the outlined one, + and - zoom, and B flips pictures on a phone.
- In Timed mode, Pause stops the clock and taps; Resume counts down three seconds first.
The rules
- Each pair has exactly seven changes. Finding the same change twice does nothing.
- Relaxed mode has no timer and no penalties.
- Timed mode: +100 for each change, -10 for a tap on nothing (at most one every half second), -25 for each hint, and a bonus of 300 minus the seconds taken when you finish. The score never goes below zero.
- The timer only runs while the page is visible and the game is not paused.
Scoring, saving and limits
Unassisted bests are kept per pair: the highest Timed score and the fastest Relaxed time. Any hint makes a run assisted, so it is shown but never becomes a best. Today's pair is chosen from the twelve by the UTC date - the same pairs come round again, they are not new pictures every day - and only your first finish of it counts as the day's result.
Your current pair, what you have found, your view and your results are saved in this browser only, so a refresh carries on where you were. Download a backup to keep them; an imported backup is checked first and can be undone. A challenge link holds only the pair and the mode.
This is a casual observation game. Scores are a record of play on this device, not a verified result, and there are no rankings.
Accessibility
Finding visual differences depends on sight, so it cannot be made equivalent without it. Everything can be done from the keyboard by stepping through the objects, every found change is listed in words, and hints point to an area and then an object. Found changes are marked with a numbered ring, not colour alone.
Questions
- I tapped the right object but nothing happened.
- A tap only counts if you did not drag; a movement of more than a few pixels is treated as panning. Try a shorter tap, or zoom in first.
- Are the differences fair?
- Every change is a whole object changing colour or being swapped, at least 80 units wide in a 1600-unit picture. An automatic check confirms nothing else in the picture differs.
- Is today's pair new art?
- No. Today's pair rotates through the twelve pairs that come with the game, chosen by the UTC date.
