What each part of a great prompt means

This tool checks your prompt for these seven ingredients. Here’s what each one is — include as many as make sense for a stronger, more predictable image.

Subject
Who or what the image is of — the main focus. Start your prompt with it.e.g. “a red fox”, “an old lighthouse”, “a woman reading”
Medium
What kind of image it is. This sets the whole look before anything else.e.g. photograph, 3D render, oil painting, watercolour, sketch, cinematic still
Style
The artistic direction or aesthetic the image should follow.e.g. realistic, minimalist, anime, cyberpunk, vintage, isometric, flat
Composition / shot
How the scene is framed and the camera angle — where the ‘camera’ sits.e.g. close-up, wide shot, aerial / top-down, macro, centred, rule of thirds
Lighting
How the scene is lit. Lighting drives both mood and realism.e.g. golden hour, soft studio light, backlit, neon, moonlight, rim light
Mood / colour
The feeling and the colour palette you want to come through.e.g. warm, cool, pastel, vibrant, moody, dramatic, dreamy, monochrome
Extra detail
Finishing touches that sharpen the result and add polish.e.g. highly detailed, depth of field, bokeh, texture, reflections, fog, 4K/8K

All seven, in one prompt

“A red fox sitting in fresh snow (subject), photograph (medium), realistic style (style), wide low-angle shot (composition), soft golden-hour backlight (lighting), cool blue tones with a calm mood (mood / colour), highly detailed with a shallow depth of field, 4K (extra detail).”
