Dates are civil calendar days, not 24-hour blocks, so daylight-saving changes never add or lose a day. Fixed example values for illustration — not your result.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose Count between dates, Add business days or Subtract business days.
  2. Enter the dates (or a start date and a number of days). For a count, say whether the start and end dates themselves are included.
  3. Tick your working week — Monday to Friday by default, or any pattern such as Sunday to Thursday — and paste any holidays, one YYYY-MM-DD per line.
  4. Read the result, the month view and the date-by-date list; download the CSV audit, or an .ics file for an added date.

How it works

Dates are whole civil days, never clock instants, so a daylight-saving change cannot add or lose a day. Each date counted is exactly one of: a workday, a non-working day, or a holiday on a working day — a holiday that falls on a weekend is never subtracted twice, and a duplicate line counts once.

Adding starts counting the day after the start date (subtracting, the day before); adding 0 returns the start date itself.

If the end date is before the start date you choose: swap them, or count backwards for a negative result. Holiday lines that are not valid dates are listed, not silently ignored.

Australian public holidays for 2026 and 2027 can be filled in for any state or territory from the Fair Work Ombudsman's published lists. They go into the editable holiday box rather than being applied silently; part-day holidays such as Christmas Eve from 7 pm are never counted as a day off, and regional holidays are only added if you ask. Anywhere else, or for local days, type the dates yourself.

Worked example

Mon 5 – Fri 9 October 2026. 5 business days with both endpoints included; with Wednesday 7 October as a holiday, 4. The same single working day counts 1 if both endpoints are included and 0 if either is excluded. One business day after Friday 9 October is Monday 12 October.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting whether the start date counts — many contracts exclude it.
  • Subtracting a holiday that falls on a Saturday.
  • Assuming every country works Monday to Friday.
