500 mL at 1:16. ≈ 31 g of coffee.
Common mistakes
- Measuring coffee by volume (scoops) instead of weight.
- Forgetting lower ratios (1:14) are stronger, higher (1:18) weaker.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good coffee-to-water ratio?
A common starting point is 1:15 to 1:17 by weight — about 60 g of coffee per litre of water — then adjust to taste.
Should I measure coffee by weight or scoops?
Weight is far more consistent; scoops vary with grind and bean. A kitchen scale gives repeatable results cup to cup.
What's the golden ratio?
Roughly 1:15 to 1:18 (coffee : water). Adjust to taste and brew method.
