How it works
To convert degrees-minutes-seconds to decimal degrees: DD = degrees + minutes ÷ 60 + seconds ÷ 3600. The tool also shows degrees and decimal minutes (DDM).
Worked example
40° 26′ 46.302″. = 40 + 26 ÷ 60 + 46.302 ÷ 3600 = 40.446195°.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between DMS, DDM and DD?
DD is decimal degrees (40.4462°); DMS is degrees-minutes-seconds (40° 26′ 46.3″); DDM is degrees and decimal minutes (40° 26.772′). The toggle converts between all three.
How do I handle south and west coordinates?
South latitudes and west longitudes are negative in decimal degrees. Use the sign or N/S·E/W option so the direction is kept.
