How to use this calculator
- Enter the hours and minutes.
- Read the decimal hours.
How it works
Decimal hours = hours + minutes ÷ 60. So 7 hours 30 minutes = 7 + 0.5 = 7.5.
Worked example
7 hours 30 minutes. = 7.5 decimal hours.
Common mistakes
- Treating minutes as hundredths — 7:30 is 7.5, not 7.30.
- Forgetting to add the whole hours back on.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert to decimal?
Payroll and timesheets multiply hours by a pay rate, which needs decimal hours (7.5) rather than clock time (7:30).
