The final printed book is still A4. This export makes a larger PDF for KDP to trim down — don’t upload it as a no-bleed/normal A4 manuscript.
The edge check is best-effort and runs in your browser — it flags likely borders or line-art hard against the trim, but can’t guarantee KDP approval.

How to use this calculator
- Drag in your PDF, PNG or JPG pages (or click to browse). Every PDF page and every image becomes one content page.
- Choose whether to randomize the order (add a seed if you want to repeat the same shuffle later), then set how many blank pages to insert and where.
- Optional: click “Detect blank pages” to scan your PDFs for visually empty pages and skip them, so existing blanks aren’t shuffled in.
- Choose Paperback or Hardcover and your KDP trim size (A4 is the default), then Bleed for full-page artwork or No Bleed for art inside white margins. Check the page preview and the final page count, then click Generate and download your finished interior.
How it works
The tool splits your PDFs into individual pages and treats each image as one page, then shuffles the content order. Blank pages are inserted around each content page according to your settings — for example, one blank after each artwork page gives the blank reverse side used in colouring and activity books.
Everything is assembled into a single PDF in your browser with pdf-lib. Your files are never uploaded — close or refresh the page and the working files are gone.
Worked example
52 artwork pages, 1 blank after each. With “include final blank” on you get a 104-page interior (artwork, blank, artwork, blank…). Turn the final blank off for 103 pages.

Frequently asked questions
Can I randomize PDF pages and images together?
Yes. Upload a mix of PDFs, PNGs and JPGs — each PDF page and each image becomes one content page, and they’re all shuffled together.
Do my files upload to Zerdly?
No. All processing happens in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDFs and images never leave your device, and nothing is stored on a server.
How does blank-page detection work?
It renders each PDF page in your browser (with pdf.js) and flags pages that are visually empty. Detected blanks are skipped from the content pool so they aren’t shuffled in — handy when a source PDF already has blank backs and you’d rather the inserter add fresh blanks. It runs locally; nothing is uploaded.
Why add a blank page after each colouring page?
In printed colouring, puzzle and activity books the back of each artwork page is usually left blank so markers don’t bleed onto the next drawing. One blank after each content page creates that artwork/blank pattern.
Can I repeat the same random order?
Yes — enter a seed (any word or number). The same files plus the same seed always produce the same order, so you can recreate a result exactly.
Can I use this for KDP books?
Yes, it’s designed for KDP-style interiors, but always review the final page count, trim size, bleed and margins against the latest platform requirements before publishing.
What page size should I choose?
Pick the same format and trim size you will choose in KDP. For full-page colouring or activity art, choose that size's Bleed preset; for art that should sit inside white margins, choose No Bleed. Custom sizes and “Preserve original size” are under the advanced page-size list.
Which KDP trim sizes are included?
Every standard KDP print trim. Paperback: 5 × 8, 5.06 × 7.81, 5.25 × 8, 5.5 × 8.5, 6 × 9, 6.14 × 9.21, 6.69 × 9.61, 7 × 10, 7.44 × 9.69, 7.5 × 9.25, 8 × 10, 8.25 × 6, 8.25 × 8.25, 8.5 × 8.5, 8.5 × 11 in and A4 (8.27 × 11.69 in). Hardcover: 5.5 × 8.5, 6 × 9, 6.14 × 9.21, 7 × 10 and 8.25 × 11 in. Each has a Bleed and a No Bleed preset, and the tool shows KDP's page range for the size you pick.
How big is the PDF with bleed?
KDP interior bleed adds 0.125 in to the width and 0.25 in to the height: a 6 × 9 in book becomes a 6.125 × 9.25 in PDF, 8.5 × 11 in becomes 8.625 × 11.25 in, and A4 becomes 8.395 × 11.94 in. The extra goes on the outside edge (right on odd pages, left on even pages) and on the top and bottom. The same rule applies to paperback and hardcover interiors.
What does the A4 Bleed preset do?
It makes every page of the PDF 8.395 × 11.94 in (604.44 × 859.68 pt): KDP’s 8.27 × 11.69 in A4 trim plus bleed. Your artwork is scaled proportionally to fill that whole page, so a normal A4 image loses a small sliver at the edges and never gets a white border. Blank backs are the same size. In KDP, choose the A4 trim and select Bleed.
Why does image DPI matter?
Print needs about 300 DPI. If an image is small for the chosen page size the tool warns you it may look soft — but it still lets you export.
What if the browser runs out of memory?
Very large PDFs or hundreds of high-resolution images can be heavy. Use a desktop browser, keep the tab open while it generates, and process in smaller batches if needed.
