How to use this calculator

How it works

The tool draws from a reviewed library of evergreen safety topic briefs and clearly-labelled fictional training scenarios, each tagged to work areas (packs), hazard families and environments. When you generate a brief it matches your selection, weights away anything you have seen recently, and attaches a varied set of open discussion questions that push toward stronger controls rather than 'be careful' or PPE alone.

A Topic Brief is an educational discussion starter about a hazard or work practice. A Fictional Scenario is an invented situation written for discussion — it always carries a 'Fictional training scenario — not a real incident' label on screen, in presentation mode, in print and in copied text, and never names a real company, person or event.

Everything runs in your browser. Your selections, history, favourites and any saved setups stay on your device — nothing is sent to a server, so it also keeps working on a weak site connection. It is a conversation aid only and does not replace a Take 5, JSA/JHA, risk assessment, permit, procedure, training or your site instructions.

Tips

Frequently asked questions

Are these real incidents?

No. This tool provides reviewed topic briefs and clearly-labelled fictional training scenarios only. Fictional scenarios are invented for discussion and are never presented as real events. Verified real-incident safety shares are a separate, human-sourced feature and are not included here.

Does it replace a risk assessment or Take 5?

No. It is a discussion aid to start a useful pre-start or toolbox talk. Always check your workplace procedures, conditions and legal requirements, and complete your own Take 5, JSA/JHA, permit and risk assessment before work.

Is my information private?

Yes. There is no sign-up. Your selections, history, favourites and saved setups are stored only on your device — nothing is uploaded to Zerdly, so a saved crew setup or note never leaves your browser.

How does it avoid repeating the same topic?

It keeps a short history on your device and weights selection away from briefs you have seen recently, so a supervisor opening it each shift gets fresh material rather than yesterday's topic.

Can I present it to the crew or print it?

Yes. Use Present for a distraction-free full-screen view that reveals the questions one at a time (keyboard-friendly), or Copy and Print to hand the brief out. Any fictional label and the safety disclaimer travel with the copied and printed text.
