QR codes need a clear margin of 4 modules on every side. Linear barcodes follow their symbology: EAN-13 needs 11 modules on the left and 7 on the right; Code 128 and Code 39 at least 10. Cropping, borders or text inside the margin can stop a code scanning. Both drawings are schematic, not scannable codes.

Print at 100% and test with the scanner that will read the code; this page does not decode codes back. Fixed example values for illustration — not your result.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose what to encode — text, a web address, Wi-Fi details, a contact card, an email or an SMS — and fill in the fields.
  2. Check the exact content shown (a Wi-Fi password stays hidden unless you reveal it), then pick the error-correction level and pixels per module.
  3. Press Generate and download a crisp SVG or PNG. For many codes, open Batch: paste a CSV (value, optional filename and label), preview, generate, then download a ZIP of SVGs or print a sheet. Scan a printed code before you rely on it.

How it works

The builders write the standard formats with the right escaping (Wi-Fi WIFI: fields, vCard 3.0, mailto:, SMSTO:). Web addresses are encoded exactly as typed and never fetched.

The qrcode library builds the code in your browser; it is drawn with whole pixels per module and the full four-module quiet zone, so the image is (modules + 8) × pixels wide.

Higher error correction survives more damage but holds less data. It does not mean that share of the code can be covered by a logo, so no logo mode is offered.

Worked example

Link to a page. https://www.zerdly.com at level M is a version 2 code, 25 × 25 modules; at 8 px per module the PNG is 33 × 8 = 264 px square.

Common mistakes

  • Cropping the white border — the quiet zone is part of the code.
  • Light modules on a dark background, or low contrast; not every scanner reads them.
  • Printing too small for the scanning distance.
