How to use this calculator
- Enter the scale percentage (e.g. 200% to double the size).
- Optionally enter a dimension and the filament weight at 100%.
- Read the linear and volume/weight factors, plus the new dimension and filament weight.
How it works
The 3D Print Resize Calculator shows what happens when you scale a model. Lengths scale directly with the percentage, but volume — and therefore filament, weight and roughly print time — scale with the cube of it.
Scaling to 200% makes every dimension 2× larger but uses about 2³ = 8× the filament. Scaling down to 50% uses only about 0.125× the filament.
Worked example
Doubling a 20 g model. At 200% the model is 2× in every dimension but uses about 8× the filament — roughly 160 g.
Frequently asked questions
Why does filament use grow so fast?
Filament tracks volume, and volume grows with the cube of the linear size. So a small bump in scale is a big jump in material — doubling the size is 8× the filament, not 2×.
Does print time scale the same way?
Roughly — more volume means more material to lay down, so time tends to scale with volume too, though infill, walls and speed settings change the exact figure.
