How it works
Estimates how many metres one unit in the last decimal place of a coordinate represents. 1° of latitude ≈ 111.32 km; longitude scales by cos(latitude).
Worked example
5 decimal places. ≈ 1.1 m of latitude precision; longitude is smaller away from the equator.
Frequently asked questions
How many decimals do I need?
5 places ≈ 1 m, 6 places ≈ 0.1 m. More than that rarely helps unless you have survey-grade GNSS.
