How to use this calculator
- Enter the original price and the discount percentage.
- Press Calculate for the final price and saving.
How it works
The saving is the price times the discount percentage; the final price is what's left: final = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100).
Worked example
$100 at 25% off. You save $25 and pay $75.
Common mistakes
- Stacking two discounts by adding them — 20% then 10% is 28% off, not 30%.
- Applying the discount to the after-tax price when the sale is on the pre-tax amount.
Frequently asked questions
How do I stack two discounts?
Apply them one after the other — 20% then 10% off isn't 30% off; it's 0.8 × 0.9 = 28% off.
How do I work out the original price from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). A $75 item at 25% off was $75 ÷ 0.75 = $100.
What discount turns $X into $Y?
Discount % = (1 − final ÷ original) × 100. From $100 to $75 is (1 − 0.75) × 100 = 25%.
