How to use this calculator

Project and review scope

A month-end survey review record tracing reported quantities to cut-off times, surfaces and density evidence. It does not compute volumes from surfaces, read spreadsheets or supply densities; a tonnage figure is only your volume × your density.

Optional tonnage and reconciliation check

Tonnes = closing volume × YOUR density. Leave density blank for a volume-only result — no density is assumed. A reconciled label also needs a reported total and matching cut-off, datum and wet/dry basis.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the reporting month, site, cut-off time and timezone, survey scope, the opening and closing surfaces, density basis, author and reviewer.
  2. Review active pits, stockpiles, dump changes, control and cut-off, surface boundaries, triangulation exclusions, density provenance, reconciliation, variances and the issued archive — add a custom row per stockpile.
  3. Optionally enter a closing volume, your own density and the reported total to see a tonnage comparison; carry outstanding actions forward via the exported JSON.

How it works

Optional tonnage check: tonnes (t) = closing volume (m³) × your density (t/m³). With no density entered the result is volume only — no density is ever assumed or supplied.

A “Reconciled” label needs a reported total to compare with, confirmed cut-off and datum alignment, a stated wet/dry basis for both figures and a variance tolerance you enter. Difference = survey t − reported t, also shown as a percentage of the reported figure.

A mismatched survey cut-off, surface datum or wet/dry basis blocks the reconciled label and appears as a critical finding on the printout.

Worked example

Closing stockpile check. A closing stockpile of 1000 m³ with your density of 2 t/m³ gives an optional 2000 t check; leave the density blank and the panel shows 1000 m³ volume only. Compared with a reported 1980 t on the same dry basis, aligned cut-off and datum, the difference is +20 t (+1.01 %) — reconciled against a ±1.5 % tolerance, not against ±1 %, and never if the density is wet while the report is dry.

Frequently asked questions

What has actually been checked?

Only what a person marked Verified, with the evidence they recorded. The tool does not compute volumes from surfaces or read your reconciliation spreadsheet; the tonnage line is only your volume times your density.

Can I use my own project requirements?

Yes. Record your site's density sources, cut-off rules and variance tolerance — none are supplied. Add your own rows (they get stable IDs), and mark rows that do not apply as Not applicable with a reason.

Does a complete checklist prove the work complies?

No. “Ready for reviewer” is your declaration that every applicable row is verified. Month-end figures are accepted through your site's reconciliation and sign-off process.

Why does wet versus dry density matter?

Wet tonnes include moisture; dry tonnes do not. Comparing a dry-density survey tonnage with a wet reported figure creates a false variance, so the tool will not call it reconciled.

Is this official course material?

No. It is free study support mapped to surveying course levels — not official North Metropolitan TAFE content or advice. Always follow your lecturer and the official assessment brief, and check your own working.
