Before you rely on this: First-pass guide only. Verify safety-critical or regulated work against the relevant standards, your project requirements and a qualified professional.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the survey area (ha) and the number of ground control points.
- Press Calculate.
- Read the area per GCP and the density.
How it works
Shows how your control is spread: area per GCP = area ÷ number of GCPs. Denser, well-distributed control improves absolute accuracy, especially at the edges.
Worked example
50 ha, 8 GCPs. 6.25 ha per GCP.
Frequently asked questions
How many GCPs do I need?
A common guide is 5–10 well-spread points plus a few checkpoints; RTK/PPK drones need fewer. Always cover the edges and corners.
