How to use this calculator
- Choose General PDF or KDP interior, the page size, orientation and whether the book uses bleed.
- Add your opening pages to the first block and the page you want repeated to the next block. PDF, PNG and JPEG all work, and you can pick pages from a PDF.
- Type the Total copies of each block. 99 means 99 occurrences, including the first.
- Check the summary: content pages, added blanks and the final page count update as you type.
- Press Create PDF, review the actual PDF in the viewer, then Download PDF.
How it works
Each block is an ordered list of pages and a total copy count. Blocks run top to bottom, and each block repeats its whole sequence before the next begins: four pages × four copies is 1, 2, 3, 4 four times — sixteen pages.
Five intro pages followed by one tracker page × 99 copies makes 104 pages, with the tracker first on page 6. Optional blanks — a block or each copy starting on a right-hand page, a blank after every page, or one at the end to make the count even — are counted and shown separately, never added silently.
Your PDF pages are reused as vector content, so text and lines stay sharp, and a repeated page is stored once however many times it appears. Images keep their own pixels. For KDP interiors with bleed, each page is 0.125 in wider on its outside edge and 0.25 in taller, and the outside edge alternates between right-hand and left-hand pages.
Everything happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, and the proof you review is the very file you download.
Worked example
A 104-page tracker journal. Introduction: 5 unique pages × 1 copy = 5 pages. Repeated pages: 1 tracker × 99 copies = 99 pages. Final PDF: 104 pages (52 leaves). Ask the second block to begin on a right-hand page and page 6 becomes a blank, giving 105; tick Ensure even final count and a last blank makes 106.
Common mistakes
- Typing 99 meaning 'the original plus 99 more'. The field is the TOTAL number of copies, including the first.
- Adding files in an unexpected order: browsers can list multi-file selections differently. Check the thumbnails, or use Sort by file name.
- Forgetting that a repeated page repeats anything printed on it, including a page number in the artwork.
- Switching on right-hand alignment for a journal that should print on both sides. Alignment blanks are optional for a reason.
- Choosing exact A4 or A5 for a KDP hardcover. KDP hardcovers come in five other sizes.
Frequently asked questions
Does 'Total copies' include the first one?
Yes. 1 means the block appears once; 4 means four times in total. Four pages repeated four times is always 16 pages.
Will my PDF pages turn into images?
No, not by default. Preserve original keeps PDF text and lines as vectors. Flatten to images is an explicit option for when you need it.
Why is there a blank page I did not add?
Only if you asked for one: a block or copy that must start on a right-hand page, blank backs, or an even final count. The summary lists every added blank and why.
Does it work for KDP hardcover?
Yes, for KDP's five hardcover sizes (5.5 × 8.5, 6 × 9, 6.14 × 9.21, 7 × 10 and 8.25 × 11 in). Exact A4 and A5 are not hardcover sizes.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Importing, building and previewing all happen in your browser, and project files are saved to your own device only when you choose Save project.
Will KDP accept the PDF?
This tool builds a file to KDP's published page, size and bleed rules and checks the result, but only KDP can approve a book. Review it in KDP Previewer and consider a printed proof.
