How to use this calculator
- Enter a latitude and longitude (decimal, DMS or DDM).
- Press Convert.
- Read the UTM zone, easting and northing.
How it works
Converts WGS84 latitude/longitude to Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates using the standard Transverse Mercator projection (k₀ = 0.9996).
The zone is chosen from the longitude; southern-hemisphere northings include the 10,000,000 m false northing.
Worked example
Perth (−31.9505, 115.8605). Zone 50 (south), about 392,000 m E, 6,464,000 m N.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is it?
Sub-millimetre for the projection itself within a zone. UTM is defined for latitudes −80° to 84°.
Is WGS84 the same as my GPS coordinates?
Yes — phones and GPS report WGS84 latitude/longitude, which is what this tool expects.
