How to use this calculator
- Enter the total explosive mass and the volume blasted (BCM).
- Optionally add rock density for kg per tonne.
- Press Calculate.
How it works
Powder factor = explosive mass ÷ rock volume (kg/BCM). Typical surface values are ~0.2–0.6 kg/BCM depending on rock and the result required.
Worked example
5,000 kg over 25,000 BCM. 0.20 kg/BCM.
Frequently asked questions
kg/BCM or kg/tonne?
Both are used. Divide kg/BCM by the rock density (t/m³) to get kg/tonne.
