Worked example

Frequently asked questions
How much sand do I need?
Multiply area by depth for volume, then by density (sand is roughly 1.5–1.6 tonnes per m³) to get the tonnage to order.
How much bedding sand under pavers?
A screeded bedding layer of about 25–30 mm is typical, over a compacted road-base sub-base.
Which sand density should I use?
Around 1.6 t/m³ for damp sand. Dry, wet or different sand types vary, so confirm the figure with your supplier.
