How it works
Grams of pure alcohol = volume × ABV% × 0.789 (alcohol's density). One AU/NZ standard drink is 10 g; a US standard drink is 14 g.

- Assuming a can or glass equals one drink — strength and size vary a lot.

What counts as one standard drink?
It is a fixed amount of pure alcohol — 10 g in Australia, 14 g in the US — regardless of glass size, so stronger drinks count as more.
How do I work out the standard drinks in a bottle?
Multiply the volume in litres by the alcohol percentage by 0.789 (alcohol’s density), then divide by your country’s grams per standard drink.
Is this how much I can drink and drive?
No — it only counts the alcohol in a drink. It is not a blood-alcohol estimate or medical/legal advice.
