How to use this calculator
- Choose cm or inches and enter your bust, natural waist and fullest hip. Leave a box blank if you did not measure it — it is treated as missing, not zero.
- Use the illustrative chart, or enter or import the size chart of the shop you are buying from.
- Read each measurement's size on its own, then the best-ranked size and exactly where it differs. Switch to Finished garment to compare a dress's own measurements, or compare two charts side by side.
How it works
For each size row and each measurement, the tool finds how far you are outside that row's range (zero inside it, boundaries included). A measurement above a range means the size would be tight there; below means roomy.
Sizes are ranked by the number of measurements they are too small for, then by distance outside the ranges relative to each range's width, then by how many measurements fit. Ties are shown as ties. If no size covers every measurement you get a split-size explanation, and if a measurement is beyond every size the tool says there is no match instead of picking the largest.
In Finished garment mode, ease is the garment's measurement minus yours. No extra ease is added to a body chart, whose ranges already allow for fit.
Worked example
A split size, on the illustrative chart. Bust 92, waist 70, hip 100 cm: the bust sits in size 12, the waist in size 10 and the hip in size 14. Size 14 ranks first because it is the only size that is not too small anywhere — size 12 would be 1 cm too small at the hip. The result notes that 14 is roomy at the bust (2 cm below its range) and the waist (8 cm below), the places tailoring can help.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure bust, waist and hip?
Bust: around the fullest part, tape level and not pulled tight. Natural waist: the narrowest part, above the belly button. Hip: around the fullest part of the hips and seat, feet together.
Why is there no AU to US or EU conversion?
Because there is no universal one. Brands map their own labels to their own measurements, so converting by arithmetic would invent an answer. A conversion appears only where the chart you choose provides it.
Why does the built-in chart say illustrative?
Because it is. Zerdly has not verified the right to republish any brand's size chart, so the built-in ranges are Zerdly's own round numbers, labelled as such. For a real purchase, enter the size chart of the shop you are buying from — it takes a minute and the comparison then uses that shop's own labels.
Is the best match a guarantee it will fit?
No. Sizes are ranked first by how many measurements a size is too small for, then by how far outside its ranges you are, then by how many measurements fit. That compares the chart's rows; it is not a probability of fit, and the tool never shows a confidence percentage.
