Engine Displacement Calculator
Calculate engine displacement in litres or cubic inches from bore, stroke and cylinder count, free and instant in your browser.
Enter Values
Minimum 1
How to use this calculator
- Enter bore and stroke (mm) and the number of cylinders.
- Read the displacement.
How it works
Each cylinder's swept volume = π/4 × bore² × stroke; multiply by the number of cylinders.
Worked example
86 mm bore & stroke, 4 cyl. ≈ 1998 cc (2.0 L).
Common mistakes
- Entering bore/stroke in cm or inches — use millimetres.
- Confusing swept volume with total chamber volume (this is swept only).
Frequently asked questions
How is engine displacement calculated?
Displacement = π/4 × bore² × stroke × number of cylinders. The tool returns the total in cc and litres.
Does bigger displacement mean more power?
It generally helps, but tuning, forced induction and rpm matter just as much — a small turbo engine can out-power a larger naturally aspirated one.
Why is my result like 1998 cc not 2000?
Displacement rarely lands on a round number; makers round to the nearest 'badge' size like 2.0 L.
