Website Content Planner

Write down what the website is for and how you will know it is working, list the pages and where each one sits, then list the content every page needs: the words, photos, forms and prices, with who is providing each and how far along it is. The planner draws your page map and turns the list into a checklist you can tick off.

It works for any website, whichever website builder, developer or agency you use, and it is yours to keep, print or hand to whoever builds the site. The document is made in your browser and is not uploaded or stored by Zerdly.

How to use the Website Content Planner

  1. Pick a layout: a compact planner, a spacious workbook with tick boxes and note lines, or a section-led plan.
  2. Enter the website or business name and, if you like, who prepared the plan, the date, the planned web address, what the site is for and who it is for. Add your logo only if you own it, and confirm you have the right to use it.
  3. Add goals, each with how you will measure it and a target date.
  4. Add pages. For each, choose its type, which page it sits under (or None for the top level) and a number for its order among its neighbours. Upload photos and tick the ones a page should show.
  5. Add content items: the page each is for, its type, what is needed, its status and who will provide it.
  6. Add references (sites or material you want to point to) and budget lines if you want them, then choose Create document, check it under View your document and download the PDF or Word file.

Example

A local bakery's plan: three goals with target dates, eight pages including a Cakes section with Birthday, Wedding and Cake enquiry pages under it, eleven content items from the counter photo to the privacy wording, two references and a three-line budget in AUD.

What it does not do

  • It is a plan, not a website. It does not build, host or publish pages, and it does not check that a goal is realistic.
  • Reference links are printed as text. They are never opened, previewed, copied or embedded; the only pictures in the plan are the ones you upload.
  • There is nowhere to store passwords, API keys or logins, and text that looks like one is refused, so it never ends up in a printed plan.
  • Progress counts are counts of your own content items by the status you chose. Budget amounts in different currencies are totalled separately, and no tax is calculated.
  • Up to 250 pages and 500 entries in any list.
