Zine and Booklet Builder

Write each page of your zine or booklet: a cover, text pages, photo pages and blanks, in the order you want. The builder makes a PDF to read on screen, or printer's spreads that put two pages on each side of a sheet so the folded stack reads in order.

A folded and stapled booklet needs a multiple of four pages. If yours is short, blank pages are added at the end and each is marked so you can see where they went. Each printed sheet says which sheet and side it is and how to set double-sided printing.

How to use the Zine and Booklet Builder

  1. Pick a layout: Compact (tight margins), Spacious (larger type) or Section-led (the first line of a text page becomes its heading).
  2. Enter the title, the binding (folded and stapled, or loose pages), the sheet size and the reading direction.
  3. Add pages: choose each page's type, write its words, tick its photos and give it a position.
  4. Choose Reader order to check it, then Printer's spreads to print: double-sided, flip on short edge, fold on the marks, staple at the fold.

Example

An 8-page A5 garden zine printed on two A4 sheets: cover, five text pages, a photo page and a blank, with fold marks and a note on each sheet side.

What it does not do

  • Saddle-stitched booklets only for printer's spreads (two pages a side). Eight-on-one-sheet mini zines need upside-down pages and are not made.
  • Words that do not fit their page are refused, naming the page; split them over two pages.
  • At most 64 pages. Check one printed copy before printing many.
  • PDF and project file only.
  • Up to 250 pages and 500 entries in any list.
