Brick Workout Calculator
Calculates combined bike and run times with transition for a triathlon brick workout.
Result
Enter a pace or speed for each leg to see your finish time and splits.
Estimate only — real results depend on course, weather, terrain, fatigue, transitions, equipment, nutrition and event rules. Not medical or coaching advice.
Before you rely on this: First-pass guide only. Verify safety-critical or regulated work against the relevant standards, your project requirements and a qualified professional.
How to use this calculator
- Pick a brick preset (or Custom).
- Enter your bike speed and run pace to get the total workout time and splits.
How it works
A brick is a bike leg followed immediately by a run. Bike = (distance ÷ speed) × 3600; run = distance × pace per km; plus the transition.
Worked example
Sprint brick. 20 km bike @ 32 km/h + 5 km run @ 5:30/km + transition.
Common mistakes
- Running the brick run at fresh-run pace — legs are heavy off the bike, so expect 10–20 sec/km slower at first.
- Skipping a quick transition rehearsal, which costs time on race day.
Tips
- Times are estimates only — not medical or coaching advice. Always train safely and follow event rules.
- Distances are editable: choose “Custom…” to enter your own course lengths.
Frequently asked questions
What is a brick workout?
Two disciplines back to back — usually a bike followed immediately by a run — to train the legs for the off-bike feeling in triathlon.
How long should the run off the bike be?
Even a short 10–15 minute run teaches the transition; build duration gradually as race day nears.
Why train bricks?
Running off the bike feels different (heavy legs); brick sessions train that transition for triathlon.
