How to use this calculator
- Enter the geodetic latitude.
- Press Calculate.
- Read the reduced (parametric) latitude.
How it works
Computes the reduced (parametric) latitude β = atan((1 − f)·tan φ) on the WGS84 ellipsoid — used inside ellipsoidal distance formulae.
Worked example
φ = −31.95°. Reduced latitude is very slightly smaller in magnitude.
Frequently asked questions
When do I need reduced latitude?
It appears in geodesic (Vincenty) distance calculations and some map-projection maths.
