How to use this calculator
- Enter the distance you swam (in metres).
- Enter the time as hours : minutes : seconds.
- Read your pace per 100 m, per 50 m and speed.
How it works
Pace per 100 m = total time ÷ (distance ÷ 100). Pace per 50 m is half that; speed (m/s) = distance ÷ time.
Worked example
1500 m swim. 1500 m in 30:00 = 2:00 /100 m.
Common mistakes
- Entering a lap count instead of total distance — pace is distance over time.
- Comparing pool and open-water paces directly when conditions differ.
Tips
- Times are estimates only — not medical or coaching advice. Always train safely and follow event rules.
- Distances are editable: choose “Custom…” to enter your own course lengths.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good swimming pace?
For fitness swimmers 2:00–2:30 per 100 m is common; competitive swimmers hold well under 1:30 — judge against your own trend.
How do I convert pace to speed?
Speed (m/s) = distance ÷ time in seconds; a 2:00 /100 m pace is about 0.83 m/s, or roughly 3 km/h.
Does pool length matter?
Not for pace — it's based on total distance and time. Use the Pool Lap tools if you need lap counts.
