How to use this calculator
- Enter the sprint distance (m) and your time.
- Read speed in m/s, km/h and pace per 100 m.
How it works
Speed = distance ÷ time; km/h = m/s × 3.6.
Worked example
100 m in 12.0 s. = 8.33 m/s ≈ 30.0 km/h.
Common mistakes
- Timing by hand — reaction delay adds 0.2–0.3 s, flattering short-sprint speeds.
- Comparing flying-start and standing-start times as if they were the same.
Tips
- Times are estimates only — not medical or coaching advice. Always train safely and follow event rules.
- Distances are editable: choose “Custom…” to enter your own course lengths.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert sprint time to speed?
Speed = distance ÷ time. The tool also shows km/h and mph, so a 100 m in 12 s is about 30 km/h average.
Is this average or top speed?
It is average speed over the distance. Top speed is higher, since you accelerate from a standstill at the start.
