Control mark description
How to use this calculator
- Fill in the mark's ID, type, material, location, datum, coordinates, RL and who established it.
- The description block builds as you type — copy it or download the .txt.
- Leave a field blank to omit that line.
How it works
A control mark description tells the next surveyor how to find and trust the mark. Keeping a consistent format — ID, type, location, datum and coordinates — makes a station register quick to read and hard to misuse.
Everything is assembled in your browser; nothing is uploaded. It's a formatting aid, not an official station summary.
Worked example
A permanent mark on a lot corner. PM 1234, star picket & plate at the NW corner of Lot 5, MGA2020 Zone 50, E 390123.456 N 6460987.654, RL 12.345 — laid out as a tidy description block.
Frequently asked questions
Does this register the mark anywhere?
No. It only formats a description for your own records. Lodging or registering a mark follows your jurisdiction's process.
Is this official course material?
No. It is free study support mapped to surveying course levels — not official North Metropolitan TAFE content or advice. Always follow your lecturer and the official assessment brief, and check your own working.
