How to use this calculator

  1. Describe the task, then work through the five steps: stop, think, identify hazards, control them, and agree what would trigger a reassessment.
  2. Add the site's hazards — or start from the suggestions — each with its consequence, control and who is responsible, and mark critical controls.
  3. Confirm each control only when it is actually in place. Decide to proceed (only possible when every critical control is confirmed) or stop and escalate, then download the task record.

How it works

Suggested hazards add PROPOSED controls; they count only once confirmed. A failed or unconfirmed critical control keeps the decision at Stop / Escalate, however complete the rest of the list is.

Proceed is an explicit decision. If the task or any hazard changes afterwards, the decision is withdrawn and a recheck banner appears. No universal risk rating is invented.

The record separates proposed from confirmed controls. Names typed in are not signatures, and the tool supports — never replaces — the SWMS, permits and supervisor authorisation.

Worked example

Traffic isolation still pending. Every generic step is done, but the critical traffic-isolation control is only proposed, so the decision stays Stop / Escalate and Proceed is locked.

Does this replace my site's safety paperwork?

No. Your site's SWMS/JSA, permits, induction and supervisor's direction always take precedence.

Is this official course material?
