How to use this calculator
- Choose the layout your software or brief expects (PENZD, PNEZD, ENZ, PENC or Point/Latitude/Longitude/Height).
- Set the delimiter, decimals, header, blank rows and the CRS and height type to record.
- Read the column mapping, then download the CSV or the bundle with metadata and README. Paste a filled template to check it.
How it works
Columns come from the layout's ordered definition, shown as Column 1 → Point and so on. PNEZD swaps positions 2 and 3, and the page warns whenever Northing comes before Easting.
The bundle adds a metadata file recording the CRS, height type, axis order, units and schema version. No CRS is guessed.
The layouts are generic: a name like PENZD is not proof that a particular program imports it that way, so check its import settings.
Worked example
PENZD with 10 rows. Point, Easting, Northing, Z, Description, then ten blank rows. With the header off, the file starts straight at the first blank row.
Common mistakes
- Importing N, E data as E, N — points land in the wrong place.
- Putting latitude/longitude into a projected layout.
- Losing leading zeros in point numbers.

Match it to the importing software or the assessment brief, and check whether it expects easting or northing first.
