Shopping List
A private, browser-based shopping list that keeps several named lists at once. Add items with a quantity, unit and price, and the tool groups them by aisle for an efficient shop and totals the estimated cost against a budget. Tick items off as you go, drag to reorder, copy the list as text to send to someone, print it, or export a backup — everything auto-saves to this browser and nothing is uploaded.
Loading your list…
How to use this calculator
- Type items into the quick-add box (one per line, e.g. '2 milk') and press Add, or add a blank row to fill in the details.
- Set each item's quantity, unit, aisle and price. Turn on 'Group by aisle' to shop in order, and set a budget to see whether you're over or under.
- Tick items into the trolley as you shop. Use Copy as text to share the list, Print / PDF for a paper copy, or Export backup to save or move it. Keep several lists (Groceries, Hardware, Party) from the List menu.
How it works
Every list is stored only in this browser's local storage, so it stays on your device — no account, nothing uploaded. Clearing your browser data or switching device won't carry a list over unless you export a backup file first.
The estimated total is the sum of quantity × price for every priced item; ticked items are counted as 'in the trolley' so you can see the spend so far and what's left. If you set a budget, the tool shows how far over or under it you are.
Grouping by aisle sorts items into a fixed supermarket order (fruit & veg, bakery, dairy, and so on) so you're not criss-crossing the shop. Turn grouping off to drag items into your own order instead.
Worked example
Budget at a glance. Add 2 × milk at $1.50 and 1 × bread at $3.00 and the estimated total is $6.00. Set a $50 budget and the tool shows '$44.00 under budget'; tick the milk off and it counts $3.00 as in the trolley with $3.00 still to buy.
Common mistakes
- Expecting the list to sync between phone and laptop — it doesn't; export a backup on one device and import it on the other.
- Clearing browsing data, which can wipe the saved lists. Keep an exported file as a safety net.
- Leaving the price blank when you want a total — unpriced items still appear, they just don't add to the estimated cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is my shopping list private?
Yes — every list is stored only in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, there's no account and no one else can see it. The trade-off is that it lives on this device, so export a backup file if you want to move or keep it.
Can I keep more than one list?
Yes. Use the List menu to add, rename, switch between and delete as many lists as you like — for example separate Groceries, Hardware and Party lists.
Can I send the list to someone?
Yes — 'Copy as text' copies the whole list (grouped by aisle) to your clipboard so you can paste it into a message or email. You can also Print / PDF it or export a backup file.
Is it really free?
Yes. Every Zerdly tool is free and runs in your browser with no sign-up, and this one works offline.
Does it sort my shopping list by aisle automatically?
Yes. Common groceries are placed into the right supermarket aisle as you add them (milk → dairy, bread → bakery, apples → fruit & veg), so you shop in order instead of criss-crossing the store. You can change any item's aisle, or turn grouping off to arrange the list manually.
Do I need to download an app or make an account?
No. It runs entirely in your browser with no download and no sign-up, and it works offline. You can add it to your phone's home screen from the browser menu to use it like an app.
