How to use this calculator

- Tick each prompt as you address it; the tool shows your completeness and what's left.
- Use it as a prompt — then complete your employer's official JSA/SWMS.
How it works
A job safety analysis breaks a task into its steps, identifies the hazards of each, and assigns controls following the hierarchy (eliminate, substitute, engineer, administer, PPE) before work starts.
This is a non-official prompt checklist for study and field exercises — it never replaces your employer's JSA/SWMS, induction or permits.
Worked example
Setting up near a road. The task and crew are named, traffic and services are identified as hazards, controls include signage, a spotter and hi-vis PPE, and the crew signs off before starting.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a valid JSA or SWMS?
No. It's a study aid that prompts the usual headings. Your workplace's own JSA/SWMS, signed off through its process, is what applies on site.
Is this official course material?
No. It is free study support mapped to surveying course levels — not official North Metropolitan TAFE content or advice. Always follow your lecturer and the official assessment brief, and check your own working.
