How to use this calculator

  1. Paste booking data or open a CSV/TSV file; choose the delimiter or let it be detected.
  2. Mark which columns are numbers (readings) — Point IDs and remarks stay text — and pick the decimals to show.
  3. Copy the aligned sheet, or download it as text or CSV (spreadsheet-safe or exact text).
  4. Pick a schema preset (levelling or total station) to mark the usual numeric columns, adjust any column, then download a printable HTML sheet or print it directly — blank setup breaks and line numbers are kept.

How it works

The data is read as proper CSV: quoted fields can hold commas and line breaks, and every cell stays text, so Point 001 stays 001.

Every row is kept, including blank rows that mark a setup break, and rows with a different number of fields are listed for review. Numbers are padded to your decimals only in columns you marked as numbers; a reading with more decimals than that is left unchanged rather than rounded.

The spreadsheet-safe CSV prefixes cells that start with = + − or @ so a spreadsheet shows them as text. Formatting never alters a measurement and does not reduce levels.

Worked example

A, "1,502", BM. Reads as three fields — A, 1,502 and BM — not four. A quoted two-line remark stays one cell.

Common mistakes

  • Deleting blank lines that separate setups.
  • Letting a spreadsheet strip leading zeros from point numbers.
  • Rounding readings to tidy them up.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the CSV cleaner?

No — the cleaner removes blanks/duplicates and outputs CSV for import; this keeps every row and aligns the columns into a human-readable booking sheet.

Is this official course material?
